Cunningham Pier is a long timber pier on the Geelong Waterfront, built in the 1850s and extending about 350 metres into Corio Bay. It is a popular shore-fishing spot, with snapper, whiting, salmon, trevally and flathead among the usual catches, and calamari after dark.
Visit Geelong Bellarine calls it a go-to spot for fishing in Geelong. Anglers fishing close to the pylons may also catch bream, leatherjackets and garfish. The tourism site points visitors to the Victorian Fisheries Authority for rules on what you can catch, size limits and where you can fish, and recommends its smartphone app, which has a “can I fish here?” feature.
Nearby options for anglers include Rippleside Pier, which is described as family-friendly, and Wangim Walk, a 440-metre wave attenuator that gives access to productive fishing water. If you are not fishing, the pier is a 350-metre walk out over the bay.
